Microchipping

Microchipping is a quick, non-surgical procedure.

The responsible choice

to get your pet microchipped might save their life.
In the United States, more than one-third of cats and dogs go missing at some point in their lives, and regrettably, only a small fraction of them are ever reunited with their owners. You dramatically increase the likelihood of finding your furry friend again if they ever go missing by having them microchipped. Here at Mariemont Veterinary Clinic, we provide microchipping services in Cincinnati, and we strongly advise you to think about getting your pet microchipped.

How It Works

A microchip, which is roughly the size of an uncooked grain of rice, does not save your personal information or offer GPS tracking. Each chip has a unique number that connects to a database that has your account and contact information instead. If your pet ever ends up at a vet's office, rescue, shelter, etc., they will be checked for a microchip. The scanner will display the chip's ID number if one is found, which may then be used to dig up your contact information. They will then call you to arrange a reunion for you and your treasured pet, provided that you maintain current contact information in your account.

Microchipping is a quick, non-surgical procedure. Microchips are implanted using a syringe since they are so tiny. Many pets don't even feel the procedure, which is similar to the sensation of receiving a vaccine. There's no need for recovery time, so your pet may go on with regular activities right away following their appointment.
