Identifying-Stress-in-Your-Pet--Taking-Action--1

While we can often recognize our own stress levels, it’s not always easy to identify signs of stress in our animals. As pet owners, it is important to understand the signs of stress in our furry friends so that we can take proactive steps to prevent any potential health issues down the road. Keep reading to discover some helpful information from the team at Mariemont Veterinary Clinic

Signs of Stress in Pets

There are several common signs that may indicate your pet is experiencing some form of stress or anxiety. These include changes in appetite, pacing and restlessness, increased aggression toward other family members or animals, excessive licking or chewing at themselves or objects, and inappropriate urination or defecation. If you notice any of these behaviors in your pet, it’s important to take action right away.

The Impact of Stress on Animals

Stress has a real impact on an animal’s physical health. It can lead to gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea and vomiting; reproductive issues like infertility; skin problems such as hot spots; behavioral issues like fear and aggression; heart problems including high blood pressure; and even immune system disorders affecting the animal’s ability to fight off infections. Chronic stress can even contribute to premature aging.

Taking Action

If you suspect that your pet is stressed out, don’t wait to take action—schedule an appointment with your veterinarian right away. Stressed-out animals are more prone to developing serious health issues down the road if left unchecked, so it is important that you contact us today if you have any concerns about your pet's wellbeing. We are here for them every step of the way.
